The success of Walt Disney's films has been due not only to their ingenious characterisation and animation, but also to the musical scores which have been inspired by them. On this album we have tried to capture some of the magic of the world of Walt Disney by offering a selection of songs which we hope you will immediately recognise and enjoy. There are two songs from 'Pinocchio', the tale of the orphan puppet, which are in contrast to each other, highlighting two very different human emotions which are to be found in many Disney films. The wistful "When you wish upon a star" evokes our feelings of sympathy for the lonely little Pinocchio, while "Give a little whistle" is so bright and cheery that we can almost see Jiminy Cricket skipping and laughing, eyes rolling, along the cobbled streets.
"Supercalifragilisticexpialidocius" from the enormously popular 'Mary Poppins' is one of those tongue-twisting ditties which Disney characters have always managed to perform so well.
Disney excelled in attributing human characteristics to the animals featured in his full-length cartoons, and songs from his own personal animal kingdom are well represented here: "Winnie the Pooh" from the film of the same name, "Thomas O'Malley Cat" from 'The Aristocats', "The Bare Necessities" from The Jungle Book', the hilarious "When I see an Elephant fly" from 'Dumbo', the "Siamese Cat Song" from 'Lady and the Tramp', "Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" from 'The Three Little Pigs' and finally the jaunty "Ugly Bug Ball" from 'Summer Magic'.
No list of Disney films would be complete without 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' and we have included two songs from this delightful film: "Heigh ho" and "Whistle while you work" two out of twelve Disney Hits which we hope will recall treasured memories.
